Longboarding in Bali - Seek and you shall find

When longboarding in Bali, waves like Batu Bolong, Kuta, and Medewi often spring to mind - and rightly so. They’re beautiful waves that we love to surf, regularly serving up near perfect conditions for longboarding. The trade-off, of course, is the obvious one: crowds. We’re not here to rant about them. At popular spots that cater to both beginners and experienced surfers, and that are firmly planted on the map, crowds are simply part of the deal.

As fun as these waves can be, we often feel drawn to the road less travelled. Studying the forecast, reading the conditions, and trying to predict when lesser known waves might turn on feels like a nod to pre-social media days - when finding a spot meant understanding tides, swells, and winds rather than scrolling a feed. Even when the waves aren’t firing when we arrive, there’s still something rewarding about discovering a place that’s a little different, shared quietly among a few friends for a morning or two.

On this particular day, we were lucky. Peeling little lefts rolled down an empty stretch of coastline, greeting us under calm conditions. It only stayed good for a few hours, but that was more than enough - enough to satisfy the craving for a quiet surf with friends, and enough to get us dreaming about the next one.
