Ramadan Sessions

Late swells on the forecast meant dropping everything and heading off on a strike mission - something we’ll never say no to at From Earth. We’d been watching the charts for a particular spot in Malaysia, hoping to squeeze in a few waves before the season shut down. When a promising window appeared, we packed the boardbags, grabbed a backpack, and went.

The trip over from Bali was smooth, landing midday to a warm welcome from local legend Haziq in his trusty little Perodua Kancil (seen above). From there, we drove into a quiet beachside town - sleepier than usual with Ramadan underway. It suited us perfectly: a few mellow days of surf, good food, and slow mornings over coffee on repeat.

We spent the trip in great company, especially with our good friends Khairil, Qadeja, and Haziq. Being around such welcoming, laid-back people made the whole experience. Qadeja and Haziq have a beautiful baby, and between them they took turns caring for the little one while the other slipped into the lineup with us - something pretty special to see.

The wave itself is known for long, peeling lefts wrapping across a sand-bottom bay, sometimes stretching as far as you can see. True to form on trips like this, we didn’t score it at its best. The wind had other ideas most days - but we found windows. Fun ones. Enough for longboard lines, a bit of tip time, and that feeling that carries you through the rest of the day.
