A Longboard Comparison - Club Soda vs Pony
When it comes to longboarding, the board you choose shapes not only how you surf, but also how you progress. At From Earth, we’ve shaped two longboards that carry different personalities in the water: the Club Soda and the Pony. While both share similarities, they are tuned for different kinds of surfers and styles. This comparison unpacks what sets them apart and helps you decide which one belongs under your feet.
The Club Soda is first and foremost a noserider. Its Californian-style outline, flat entry rocker, tail kick and nose concave make it a board that loves to set a line and lock in, holding steady through critical noseride sections. But that doesn’t mean it’s limited to just noseriding - far from it. In the hands of a surfers who already have some experience, the Club Soda is very much an all-rounder. Its more pinched, refined rails give it sensitivity and precision, while still keeping enough forgiveness. The tail kick plays a dual role: it locks the board into long, steady noserides while also providing the release needed for responsive turns. For riders who already have some confidence in trim and footwork, the Club Soda opens up a wide range of performance, from classic nose work to stylish rail turns.
The Pony, by contrast, was shaped with progression and accessibility in mind. It carries a touch more rocker, fuller rails, and extra volume through the body, giving it a buoyant, stable feel. These features make it easier for newer longboarders to paddle, balance, and experiment with trimming or cross-stepping without feeling punished by every mistake. The Pony’s pulled-in tail brings a liveliness that makes turning smooth and intuitive. It’s a board that encourages learning, while still offering enough refinement to stay fun as your skills grow.
In practice, the difference between these two models comes down to intent. If your'e a competent surfer who's main goal is to spend time on the nose while also exploring the performance spectrum of classic turns and flow, the Club Soda is a board that delivers both. It rewards skill and experience, but never feels limiting. The Pony, meanwhile, is about building confidence and versatility. It lets you progress with noseriding while also helping you find your lines and turns more easily.
Between them, both boards embody the From Earth ethos: shapes that are built for all surfers in mind. if you have any specific questions about each model, drop us a message here and we'll be happy to help!
